The languages of Papua New Guinea today number over 850, making it the most linguistically diverse place on earth.The main languages spoken in Papua New Guinea is English, Tok Pisin, and Hiri Motu. Hiri Motu, also known as Police Motu, Pidgin Motu, or just Hiri, is a simplified version of Motu, of the Austronesian language family. Tok Pisin is the most widely used language in Papua New Guinea. Although it is an official language of Papua New Guinea, English is only spoken by 1–2% of the population.
